J 04 SPECIAL SESSION: Global Philanthropy: International Giving Trends and Practices

Monday, November 2, 2009: 9:30 AM-10:45 AM
Description/Overview: International giving grew faster than overall giving between 2002 and 2007, according to the Council on Foundations. Giving by foundations and individuals contributed to this growth. Even though natural disasters and the global philanthropy of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation are likely the prime motivators for this fast-paced growth in international giving, donors surveyed by the Council on Foundations in 2007 indicated that they have a long-term commitment to international giving. How individuals and foundations are giving and what are they supporting will be addressed in a panel discussion which includes an overview of global philanthropy by Dr. Una Osili, interim director of research at Indiana University Center on Philanthropy. Other panelists include representatives from Johnson & Johnson Corporate Contributions and The Baxter International Foundation.
