G 17 Paving the Way Toward Global Nursing Collaboration: Building the Pan-American Summit on EBP

Description/Overview: The Center for the Advancement of EBP (CAEP) at the Arizona State University College of Nursing & Health Innovation (ASU CONHI) exemplifies a commitment by the CONHI to a) provide needs-based international education and leadership in evidence-based practice (EBP), b) foster a paradigm change in learner knowledge and c) sustain EBP to improve culturally-sensitive and economically feasible patient outcomes worldwide. This symposium will focus on the strategic methodology employed to establish and maintain a multi-national nursing exchange and the collaborative effort to plan and execute three Pan-American summits on EBP. Summit goals included: a) to work with nursing leaders across countries to unify efforts to advance EBP within the Americas; b) to build professional networks around EBP that facilitate implementation at the point of care; c), and to collaborate with governmental and health policymakers in development of policies that support the basic value of nurses and their impact on patient outcomes through EBP. The first session will present the building blocks, global vision, and foundational support required for international relationships that build to initiatives meeting mutual needs and fostering improvement in health care. The second session will focus on the methodology implemented to sustain global relationships and efforts to advance EBP. The third session will focus on the outcomes across the EBP Summits and how building a Pan- American collaborative infrastructure is providing a vehicle for professional nursing success in actualizing evidence-based healthcare worldwide.
