Nursing: A Melodic Colourama

Learning Objective #1: Describe the Rainbow System as applied to provider and patient/client
Learning Objective #2: Gain understanding and interpret the health continuum through music application

Do we live in a world devoid of colour and music? Hardly! No mater where one goes in this world, these two items are universal. Man travels the globe while observing the environment, animals, and other human beings. Variety of colours and music are everywhere. Think about the practice of nursing in the same context.

Nursing! Just the word brings to mind a wide vision of images encompassing a full span of the globe. Nursing Practice presents with wide diverse choices in specialty focus and application. However, as nursing has evolved, there is a theme speaking out which has been in my mind for a number of years.

“Nursing: A Melodic Colouramma” was first conceived while attending graduate school and has been expanded into a form of theoretical framework for a practice model. This is not a traditional model in the sense of other theorists but one that suggests wide visionary concepts utilizing colours and music to describe the levels of individual emotions and the health continuum.

As healthcare delivery currently utilizes a variety of Complementary Therapies, this fanciful application addresses the provider and recipient of care as a Rainbow System. This system functions on a continuum of major and minor cords and experiences a series of flats and sharps across the health spectrum. These fluctuate as individuals experience life including acute and chronic disease episodes

Now in the 21st Century, nurses are involved with multiple applications providing diversity, networking worldwide, and collegiality through education, shared technology, and discussion. A theoretical framework that could be applied anywhere, by any practitioner, would be a wonderful tool when considering practice and cultural diversity.

Let your imagination soar into a practice setting application that could become universal. Take time to relax, allow creative juices to flow, and enjoy!
