San Diego Nursing Service-Education Consortium

Learning Objective #1: Initiate a consortium for annual centralized clinical placement for all nursing students in a county wide health care system.
Learning Objective #2: Establish a communication system for service and academia to problem solve and resolve student issues related to clinical placement.
If you are in an environment where there are multiple schools competing for limited clinical placement, the model described herein may offer new insights. This symposia describes implementation of a consortium with centralized scheduling driven by mutual input from service and academia. Implementation of the process is enhanced in situations where there is an existing community linkage between service and education; otherwise, the model could provide an opportunity to establish such a relationship.
