This presentation is a discussion of the book, Making a Difference: Stories from the point of care. This session will remind nurses why they chose the incredible career of nursing, using narrative and music. The author will take you on a journey that documents the wisdom of nurses through the everyday stories they have documented. Nurse's impact the lives of patients from the moment life begins to the very end. You will learn about the work of nurses as they share with people in the sometimes mundane, sometimes tragic, sometimes joyful and sometimes mysterious cadences of the human journey. Based upon phenomenological research, the author recounts the illustrations of the caring spirit of nurses. You will understand that nurse stories are our soulfulness. They are our legacy to pass on like a valuable string of pearls. You will be made aware of specific stories that reveal the attention nurses give to the "little things" which transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. This book is an attempt to find voice to the silent, the humble, the courageous and the heroic acts of nurses. It is a tribute to the keen knowledge of nurses as only they can open their hearts to the feelings of others. Stories illuminate the fundamental meaning and purpose of nurses. The author will show you how.
