Learning Objective #1: TO understand nursing administrative categories including planning, organization, human resources, leadership, and controlling.
Learning Objective #2: To analyze the background of the authors, themes, theoretical frameworks, designs, data collecting methods and information processing.

To analyze the themes, important results and trends in nursing research studies published in nursing journals in the past 20 decade could help us understand the future trend and topics to study. The majority of studies reviewed in the past were mainly analysis of clinical nursing, administration, and nursing education. Our study collection and analysis will focus on the background of the authors, theoretical frameworks, themes, designs, data collecting methods and information processing. Research articles for our study were published in VGH Nursing( Veterans General Hospital Nursing). The VGH Nursing Journal was published in 1984, it is an important indicator for clinical and administrative trends journal. Themes of studies were categorized into five categories including planning, organization, human resources, leadership, and controlling. Articles analyzed were published from 1984 to 2003. Inter-rater agreement was built between investigators who were responsible for categorization. The researcher will choose one tenth of articles by random sampling to review the articles and re-categorize in order to reach 100% agreement of inter rater reliability. Five-member expert-panel was invited to criticize the processing. Where differences in selections occurred, experts would be consulted to solve disagreement. SPSS was used to do analyze data. Frequency and percentage were processed for basic data. Chi-square and Fisher’s exact test will be used to examine the differences in distribution. The result will help us to understand nursing administration research in theme, theoretical framework, research design, measurement tool, reliability and validity, data collection methods, and nursing outcome. It will provide nursing trends and nursing research topics as reference for nursing administrators and educators.
