Sigma Theta Tau International’s research priorities are as follows: promotion of healthy communities through health promotion, disease prevention and recognition of social, economic and political determinants; implementation of evidence-based practice; targeting the needs of vulnerable populations such as the chronically ill and poor; and capacity development for research by nurses.

Objectives:
- Explore strategies to promote teaching-learning about the broad use of technology in the advancement of nursing science.
- Promote international opportunities for collaboration through the use of technology in its broadest sense.
- Integrate technological advancements in the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge, leadership, and service skills amongst diverse communities internationally.
- Enhance technology access for international membership in the promotion of discovery and the advancement of nursing science in diverse practice, education, research, and administrative settings.
- Create an international forum where the exchange of ideas and solutions promotes the integration of technology into evidence based nursing practice.
- Stimulate dialogue that will create and foster a technologically advanced international nursing environment.

General Submission Guidelines
- All abstracts must be submitted via this online submission system. (Follow the hyperlinks on this page).
- Abstracts must be in English.
- Because Sigma Theta Tau International is committed to worldwide collaboration in evidence-based nursing, it is requested that researchers make a concerted effort to identify and review global research relevant to their work.
- Abstract text should be original and in compliance with all copyright laws (i.e., not submitted for future publication/presentation and not previously published/presented). Abstract can discuss work that was used in a prior presentation/publication or submitted for future publication/presentation. However, the abstract text and focus must be different.
- You are strongly encouraged to compose the abstract text in your own word processor before submitting it online. Be sure to check spelling, word count and conformance with the guidelines.
- No italics, Greek letters, or other special fonts are permitted.
- An individual may submit more than one abstract. However, space and time constraints may allow only one selected presentation per author/organizer.
- All communication will be sent to the first author/organizer. A valid email address is required for all submitters.
- Once you begin a submission, you will receive an email give you the submission ID# and password. These can be used if you need to access your submission at any time in the future. The ID# and password will also be helpful if there are any problems with your submissions and can be used later for uploading your PowerPoint presentation.
- After the deadline (16 January 2008) for submitting an abstract has passed, an email will be sent from Sigma Theta Tau International to confirm receipt of the abstract and that it will be sent for review.
- Only complete submissions (see below for what constitutes a complete submission) will be sent for review. Submissions that are incomplete after the deadline will be withdrawn from the system and will not be sent for review.
- • Presented abstracts will be entered into Sigma Theta Tau International’s Virginia Henderson International Nursing Library.
- Notifications will be sent to all first authors/organizers by email in late March 2008.
- Final acceptance is conditional upon registration of presenters by the early registration deadline.
- For oral presentations and symposia, presenters must use PowerPoint or present without audio-visual equipment. A computer and projector for PowerPoint will be the ONLY audio-visual equipment provided. No additional audio-visual equipment (i.e., speakers for sound, laser pointers, flash drives, CDs, etc.) or software (i.e., Flash, QuickTime, Media Player, etc.) will be supplied or can be used. PowerPoint presentations will be requested in advance of the congress and linked on the presentation computer for a smooth transition.
- The PowerPoint deadline has been set for 2 June 2008.

Oral and Poster
Guidelines
- A complete abstract includes the following:
- Identification of preferred presentation format (paper, poster, or either)
- Two learner objectives (i.e., measurable outcomes of presentation which complete the sentence, "The learner will be able to. . . ") - each limited to 25 words, or less
- Two (2) to three (3) keywords
- An abstract (300 words, or less, not including title or presenter information)(including references)
- A profile for each author (contact and biographical information).
- The presenting author should be listed first in the order of authors.All communications will be directed to the presenting author only.
- Oral presentations will be restricted to 15 minutes plus 5 minutes for a question and answer dialogue with the audience.

Symposium
Guidelines
- Symposia may report completed research or focus on research issues.
- A complete symposium includes the following:
- An overview (300 words, or less, not including title or presenter information)
- Two learner objectives (i.e., measurable outcomes of presentation which complete the sentence, "The learner will be able to. . . ") - each limited to 25 words, or less
- Two (2) to three (3) keywords
- Three (3) abstracts (each 300 words, or less) with a common theme
- o One organizer profile (contact and biographical information). All communications will be directed to the organizer only. The organizer should then inform all appropriate presenters.
- A profile for each author (contact and biographical information).
- At least three different authors must be available to present the symposium.
- Accepted symposia will be limited to 90 minutes, including time for a question and answer dialogue with the audience.
