The First Eight Years: Examination of an International Collaboration to Support Evidence-Based Nursing
Rick Wiechula, MNSc, Joanna Briggs Institute, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia and Alan Pearson, PhD, The Joanna Briggs Institute, Australia.
Learning Objective #1: Discuss issues of importance in internationalising the ouput from evidence based research
Learning Objective #2: Describe this program that incorporates a range of evidence based activities undertaken by an international group to disseminate best practice information globally

Background: Although there are many examples in the evidence based movement of organisation/programs that function on an international basis, there are few examples in nursing. The Joanna Briggs Institute is one rare example.

Objective: The objective of this project was to examine the work of the Joanna Briggs Institute from inception until know and to determine what lessons can be learned from this international collaboration of nurses and midwives.

Conclusions: This collaboration has produced a number of evidence based publications distributed widely throughout the world. Services are provided across international borders to an increasingly diverse group of health care organisations and professionals.
