Learning Objective #1: Describe the importance of providing evidence specific to nursing practice
Learning Objective #2: Describe an example of meeting the information needs of clinicians using an evidence-based approach to practice

Background: In order to truly embed evidence based practice into health care institutions clinicians require the tools and support that will provide them with information that is specific to their needs, is based on the best available evidence and in a form and format that can be immediately applied to their practice. Objective: Our objective was to redesign our clinical information service so that individual clinicians or organizations could search and save online, information including an evidence report for specific interventions they use in their practice. Design: Clinical Information Service (CIS) personnel using feedback from the existing JBI practice manual service users worked with web developers to redesign the CIS. Users can search for interventions of interest from a growing database. They can use pre-saved searches to select acute care, aged care or their own organizations manual or alternatively build a new manual. The process is dynamic and items can be added or subtracted at will. The elements that can be chosen for inclusion in the final manual/report include description of the intervention, the equipment required, occupational health and safety alerts, an evidence review and the literature from which the review is derived. This can then be saved for future reference online, can be saved as a PDF format document for posting on local intranets or can be printed as a fully indexed and formatted manual of clinical practice. Outcome: Users of the service now have an interactive and dynamic tool that can produce evidence based practice manuals in both electronic and hard copy format ‘on the fly’.
