Advancing Nursing Practice Excellence: State of the Science

Paper, poster, and symposium presentations may be submitted on the following themes:

General Submission Guidelines

Only completed studies will be accepted and should include:

• The current State of the Science
• Specific results and how the work contributes to advancing nursing knowledge

• Abstracts and presentations must be in English.
  
• Results should not have been presented at another national or international meeting or published in a national or international journal.
  
• Only those abstracts meeting stated guidelines will be peer reviewed. The Congress Planning Committee will determine the final selection of abstracts.
  
• All submissions will be added to the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Research Registry.

• Abstracts are to be submitted electronically no later than Friday, 15 February 2002.

Symposium Guidelines

• Symposia may report completed research or focus on research issues.
• Each symposium should include 4 to 5 cohesive abstracts with a theme. (See abstract guidelines below.)
• Abstracts should be entered in the order in which they will be presented.
• A presenter profile should accompany each abstract.
• Each symposium should include a symposium overview describing the theme and purpose of the symposium. (Limited to 750 words, excluding titles of abstracts and symposium).
• Two learner objectives, i.e. measurable outcomes of presentation, are required per symposium. (Limited to 300 words.)
• One symposium organizer profile is required per symposium.
• At least four different authors should be available to present.

Abstract Guidelines

• Specify preferred presentation format (paper or poster).
• List the presenting author first.
• Author profiles (contact information) should accompany each abstract.
• Podium paper presentations will be restricted to 20 minutes with time set aside for questions, answers and comments at the end of each session.
• Two learner objectives, i.e. measurable outcomes of presentation, are required per paper. (Limited to 300 words; objectives not required for posters.)
• No italics, Greek letters, or other special fonts are permitted.
• The abstract text should contain (in separate, labeled paragraphs):
  • Objective
  • Design
  • Population, Sample, Setting, Years
  • Concept or Variables Studied Together or Intervention and Outcome Variable(s)
  • Methods
  • Findings
  • Conclusions
  • Implications
  Each heading must be immediately followed by a colon. Either singular or plural forms of a heading may be used, e.g. "Conclusion:" or "Conclusions:".
• In total, the abstract text (excluding title, learning objectives and author information) must contain no more than 750 words.
