Closing the Gap in Research: Recruiting and Retaining Children and Adolescents

The theme of this symposium is "Effective Strategies for Involving Children and Adolescents in Research". The purpose of this symposium is to provide the audience with an overview of unique characteristics of children and adolsecents that require that different approaches be used to recruit children and adolescents for clinical research, for obtaining meaningful assent and consent to participate,and to retain them in a study over time. Additionally, the audience will hear about how children and adolescents from minority cultures may view research differently and who may be motivated by different strategies.
