Protocol Intervention of Nursing: "APECC: Acceptance in Persons With Cardiac Stimulation Cardioverter"

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD) have shown a rapid increase and are the leading cause of death in the world. In Colombia, in the last 3 decades, Cardiac Disease has occupied the top five positions in the country's causes of mortality, data that are relevant if we take into account that the population pyramid has been invested and that life expectancy Is much higher for high-income and developing countries.

Treatment for severe cardiac conditions requires the implementation of automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) therapy, which is an effective alternative treatment, increasing the survival rate with life quality. However, the implantation of this device comes with important changes in physical, psychological and social levels and affects the lifestyle, which supposes new challenges for the health care of the people who are implanted.

In response to these needs, it has been proposed the intervention of Nursing "APECC: Acceptance in People with Cardiac Stimulation Cardiodesfibrilador", which seeks through learning the modeling of the behavior of people implanted, a perspective that has been described from the theory of Social learning. For its application, a structured, organized protocol has been designed to maintain the necessary components in clinical nursing practice to respond to the care needs of the implanted people.

METHODS: We searched the literature in five databases: Academic Search Complete, Science Direct, Ovid Nursing, Virtual Health Library and PubMed. We used a combination of the following terms or Keywords: Electrophysiology, nursing, Cardioverter, cardiac arrhythmias. The main needs of the people implanted and the educational contents were identified. The document of the protocol was structured according to the standards proposed by the Ministry of Health of Colombia and based on the best medical evidence possible.

RESULTS: A structured, organized and easily managed document was consolidated, the available scientific evidence to address the care needs of people who are implanted with a cardioverter defibrillator, to be applied by nursing professionals.

CONCLUSIONS: The Clinical protocols in nursing practice provide the best available scientific evidence to address the care needs of people in similar health situations, as well as to ensure and evaluate the quality of nursing care. In many cases they transform from intangible into tangible.
