Summary: In 2010 the Institute of Medicine (IOM) report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, recommended increasing the number of nurse leaders on boards. This symposium describes the role and responsibilities of board members and offers lessons from three board rooms--a professional association, a university and a hospital.
