The Quality of life (QoL) of the dialysis patients can be looked into two aspects: kidney specific quality of life and general quality of life. In this study, general QoL is mainly explored which is having two main divisions: physical QoL and emotional QoL. A cross-sectional study was carried out with 205 patients to measure the QoL of the patients across the demographic variables and clinical variables. The KDQOL-SFTM tool, developed by the WHO and was used to collect data from Oman patients on hemodialysis to measure the QoL numerically.
The study reveals that the patients with cardiac disease or underweight patients are suffering much in physical functioning. The young people, educated groups, widowed people, low income group are suffering a lot to carry out their physical rolls. The educated groups are much affected than the not educated or primary educated group in in their physical rolls. Cardiac disease or diabetes mellitus with hypertension illness patient are poorer in the general health. Young patients emotionally feel much compare to the old patients. The patients with 5 - 8 mg/l level of Serum Creatinine has less emotional well-being. The low income groups are affected much in social function. Maximum burden is found in their role physical activities and minimum in the social function. The physical QoL in this study was 45.7 (95 % CI, 44.3, 47.0) which is less than half of the healthy human. The emotional QoL in this study is 53.33 (95 % CI, 51.1, 55.5) which is just above less than half of the healthy human QoL. The difference between the score of physical QoL and emotional QoL is -7.66 (95% CI, -10.3, -5.1) which says the physical QoL is significantly much poorer than the emotional QoL. The overall general QoL in this study 49.5 (95% CI, 47.8, 51.2) which states the half of the QoL of healthy human. In order to generalize the result to Oman, it has to be replicated in the other parts of Oman.
