Chlorhexidine oral care is often applied in hospitalized patients for maintaining oral health or for the prevention of pneumonia albeit that evidence is not consistent across distinct patient populations. Recent insights however, presume that this oral antiseptic might increase mortality. These findings incite thorough reappraisal of this widespread practice.
