Nursing is the ideal profession to blend the concepts of wellness, balance and health.  As trusted professionals, we have a responsibility to help lead the Wellness Revolution, which is expected to peak in the year 2010.  The Forces of Magnetism challenge facilities to address workplace wellness within the realm of satisfaction.
Forces of Magnetism is a term created by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and one that is familiar to those whose institutions have been awarded nursing’s highest honor, Magnet Recognition, as well as to those on the Magnet journey.  The Magnet Recognition Program® application process involves a rigorous review and analysis of a healthcare organization's commitment to implementing the Forces of Magnetism, the key evaluation criteria.  A team of professionals reviews detailed documentation from applicant organizations and conducts extensive interviews to assess the management philosophy, the advocacy practice of the nursing leadership, and the caliber of nursing care offered to the community.
Worksite wellness programs including web-based materials, activity logs, and pedometer programs contribute to overall health of mind, body, and spirit.  Workteams within the finest hospitals offer internal respite sites that facilitate caring for caregivers resulting in an overall sense of well-being, nurturing, and respect.  The Magnet journey exemplifies the positive practice environment – an environment of overall well-being.
