Learning Objective 1: identify principles of evidence-based practice essential for nursing practice.

Learning Objective 2: describe the integration of principles of evidence-based practice across baccalaureate, masters and doctoral nursing curricula.

Evidence-based practice, by no means a new concept, is, nonetheless, relatively new to many nursing curricula. This presentation will outline the journey of one nursing program from traditional research methods courses in the baccalaureate and masters program to a seamless trajectory toward evidence-based practice from the baccalaureate through the doctoral level. In the five-semester baccalaureate program students progress through a series of three nursing science courses designed to introduce them to the principles of evidence-based practice and to critical appraisal of individual research studies, research syntheses and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. In the masters program students engage in critical appraisal of groups of studies, making recommendations for clinical practice based on synthesis of this literature. In the doctoral program students design, implement and evaluate a practice change based on their synthesis of the evidence.
