Learning Objective 2: Describe the challenges in transitioning from a traditional nursing administration program to a multidisciplinary healthcare leadership program.

The need for leaders in healthcare has never been greater. Specifically, leaders are needed to manage traditional healthcare operations and create the conditions and infrastructure for innovations to occur in healthcare in a safe and proactive way. This challenge to lead in the seemingly disparate worlds of operations and innovation is addressed in educational programs that integrate principles of change, patient care excellence, innovation, leadership and evidence into the emerging role of innovation leadership. This presentation will discuss the evolution of the traditional nursing administration program to a contemporary master of healthcare innovation program. Characteristics and successes of program graduates will also be shared.
