Learning Objective 1: describe the process used to create a statewide nursing research consortium, including tips for working with large, diverse groups of people and organizations.
Learning Objective 2: state successes of a statewide research program with multiple partners.
With the healthcare system in a state of upheaval, at no time before has it ever been so important that nursing research become clinically relevant. It is imperative that bedside nurses recognize the importance that research can bring to the discipline of nursing. At the same time, academicians need to make research accessible and helpful for practice. How do we ensure that the basic ideas of research are brought directly to the clinical bedside bridging the great divide between theory and practice? By including bedside nurses, the very people that come into contact daily with patients and their families, in the process of research. Through a joint process of education and spirit of working together, nurses from diverse backgrounds in both healthcare and academic settings have worked together through a statewide nursing evidence-based practice and research consortium (SNERC) to improve the practice setting and, inevitably, the outcomes of the patients they serve. This presentation will include information about the process used to create this consortium as well as helpful tips when working with large, diverse groups of people and organizations. Successes of the program will also be reviewed.
