Monday, November 2, 2009: 11:15 AM-12:30 PM
Description/Overview: As financial challenges increase in academic and healthcare service settings around the world, nurse educators, nurse administrators, and nurses in clinical practice are challenged to provide efficient and effective learning opportunities for healthcare professionals and the lay public. This session will focus on innovative teaching-learning strategies that maximize both the use of new technology and existing resources. Examples will include self-directed learning, regional simulations centers, use of micro-simulation for learning, debriefing using expert faculty in remote locations, and multi-disciplinary core education.
Learner Objective #1: identify three strategies for the cost-effective use of simulation technology in the academic and healthcare service settings.
Learner Objective #2: describe the implementation of a self-directed learning strategy for healthcare education in lay and professional populations.
