Learning Objective 1: Describe strategies to integrate staff development in a multi-hospital system

Learning Objective 2: Discuss outcomes from the integration

With many mergers and consolidations of organizations, integrating educational services within multiple settings can be challenging.  This poster will describe the impetus for integrating staff development in seven hospitals in an integrated healthcare system and will outline strategies that were used to accomplish this.  These included identifying work group members and establishing monthly meetings to scrutinize current programs and services at all the sites for areas of similarities and differences.  A proposal was developed and presented to all the Chief Nursing Officers (CNOs) with priorities and timelines.  Costs were identified for the various options.  Outcomes will be described, which include but are not limited to: having one preceptor course for the system, having all hospitals under the same CE providership, consolidating ACLS training centers in the southwest region, contracting with an online continuing education provider for CE programs for nurses, creating a plan for certification prep courses at rotating sites, and creating a mobile simulation lab.  The approaches used with this integration are appropriate for all nurses in our global society.  Strategies will be shared to assist in developing global connections to promote the advancement of education.
