Learning Objective 1: Describe the dynamics of building partnerships between a college of nursing and nursing schools in other countries that result in connections and commitments.

Learning Objective 2: Describe the significance of a college of nursing mission statement and goals related to the United Nations Millenium Development Goals.

Global leadership, especially in colleges and schools of nursing, is becoming increasingly important, given the United Nations Millenium Development Goals and the nature of the nursing profession.  As the largest provider of new registered nurses in Texas, the Texas Woman's University College of Nursing has developed an initiative that provides global and cultural competency in the curriculum.  Located in three distinct geographical areas of Texas, the TWU CON has embarked in a concrete way to develop a proposed center for global nursing that will empower women in several developing countries.  The mission and goals of the CON provide the foundation for this work, in addition to the culturally rich student bodies in each of the baccalaureate, master's and doctoral programs.  With sound and solid leadership to support faculty in the development of significant relationships with schools of nursing internationally, the CON is engaging in relevant work to address the UN Millenium Development Goals.  This presentation will focus on the importance of leadership, especially in a multicampus setting, in order to advance the global initiatives of the faculty.
