Learning Objective 2: The learner will be able to examine predict factors influencing innovative behavior of professional nurses.
The purposes of this research were to study innovative behavior; to examine relationships between constructive organizational culture, achievement motive and innovative behavior and to predict factors influencing innovative behavior of professional nurses working in Police General Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand. Research subjects were of 232 professional nurses selected by stratified random sampling. Constructive organizational culture (Cooke and Lafferty, 1989), achievement motive (McCleland, 1985), and innovative behavior (Kleysen & Street, 2001) were used as a conceptual framework and to develop study questionnaires. All instruments were tested for the content validity and reliability. The Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient of Constructive organizational culture, achievement motive and innovative behavior were .95, 93 and .92, respectively. The data were analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficients and stepwise regression.
Major findings were as follows:
1. Innovative behavior of professional nurses at Police General Hospitals were at high level ( = 3.67, SD = .54).
2. Constructive organizational culture, and achievement motive were positively and significantly related to innovative behavior at p = .05 level (r = .471 and .509 respectively, p<.05).
3. Predictors of innovative behavior were achievement motive and constructive organizational culture These predictor accounted for 28.2 percent of the variance (R2 = .297).
