Learning Objective 2: The learner will be able to consider promoting the surroundings in order to accomplish nurse’s own growth.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to clarify the relationships among the Self-Directed Learning Readiness (SDLR), self-directed learning ability, and the demographic characteristics such as professional years, employment position, educational status, and types of hospital, etc.; one’s will to work continuously, to enter the next stage of education, and to acquire qualification; or the existence of nursing role model.

Result: 727 nurses responded to the survey. There were 28 males and 699 females with the age of 35.0±10.1 years, and the period of working as a nurse were 12.8±9.8 years. The statistical differences among SDLR scores, the self-directed learning ability scores, types of hospitals, employment position, one’s will to work continuously and to acquire qualification and the existence of nursing role model.

Conclusion: It is important for nurses to promote the SDLR and self-directed learning ability by having one’s objectives in order to accomplish one’s own growth through one’s life.
