Learning Objective 2: 2. Discuss key findings of measures to determine effectiveness of strategies and approaches to facilitating eHealth awareness and engagement in the nursing profession.

A professional nursing association in Canada has for the past five years developed and implemented strategies to increase nursing’s involvement in eHealth and assist nurses play a leadership role in eHealth adoption across the system. The initiative has enabled the development of key strategies such as the eChampion Network, a regular eNewsletter, and nursing leadership eHealth exchanges for both faculty and service leaders. In addition a series of resources including an eleven module web based foundational eHealth course, advanced elearning courses related to using best practices, and health teaching through mobile devices, a Nursing and eHealth Toolkit, and patient tools related to eHealth have been developed.

The uptake of resources, and their impact as well as the overall influence of the project and related approaches will be shared. In addition, results from a system wide survey related to the perceptions of nurses about their eHealth understanding, valuing, and involvement, will be shared and discussed. Survey results will also be compared to previous surveys of nurses to highlight areas of growth and change and continued challenges.

This presentation will describe the details of the nursing and eHealth initiative, as well as the formation of critical partnerships to maximize the impact of the initiative’s focus on nursing, quality care and eHealth. The specific approaches and resources related to the initiative will be discussed and demonstrated. Finally key accomplishments, lessons learned and recommendations for successful sustained engagement of nurses in eHealth will be reinforced.
