The objective of this study was to establish clinical nursing practice guidelines to promote holistic comfort care in critically ill children on a mechanical ventilator, through a systematic review and research utilization process. These guidelines were compiled by analyzing and synthesizing 31 relevant studies, and validated for clinical relevance, scientific-merit and implementation potential for clinical practice by five experts. The guidelines can help healthcare providers, especially nurses, to provide holistic comfort care to critically ill children on a mechanical ventilator.                The guidelines establish: 1) caring to promote physical comfort care; 2) caring to promote psychological comfort care; 3) caring to promote environmental comfort care; and 4) caring to promote sociocultural comfort care.                                            It is recommended that these guidelines should be used by healthcare providers to promote holistic comfort care and should be evaluated for implementation and improved for suitability for nursing practice.
