Strengthening RN to BS Nurse Thinking with Critical Reflection
As educators prepare future nurse leaders of influence to practice in the 21st century, it is crucial to mentor them in developing sound and safe clinical judgment skills. As the nurse practices in the complex healthcare environment, the risk of errors in patient care increase. It is important to be creative in developing educational tools to foster the development of safe clinical practice. The faculty mentor role in helping students connecting theory to practice enables students to safely deliver care in a complex diverse healthcare environment. Students in the Morrisville State College RN to BS completion program use the Tanner  (2006) Model "Thinking Like a Nurse" as a framework in critical reflection to develop clinical judgement.  This session will guide participants in comparing exemplary and minimal level student reflections in general course work as well as from their service learning projects.
