Learning Objective 1: Understand the impact of childhood immunization outreach to rural underserved/underinsured populations.

Learning Objective 2: Identify charactieristics and benefits of student experiential learning related to childhood immunizations.

The presentation is designed to showcase the Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing Childhood Immunization Outreach Program located in West Central Texas as an experiential learning model for baccalaureate nursing students. Recognizing that students learn kinesthetically and visually the program is specifically designed to address these learning styles. In its sixth year of operation, the program is not only a teaching/learning venue but is part of a coalition of community organizations committed to providing no cost, easily accessible childhood vaccinations (ages 2 months through 18 years) and education to families. As a Texas state Vaccine for Children (VFC) provider the School of Nursing is committed to addressing the health care needs of rural families with children in eleven surrounding counties.
