Learning Objective 1: The leaner will recognize the steps involved in the development of a research project to examine best practices for telehomecare nurses.
Learning Objective 2: The leaner will verbalize understanding of the research design implemented for Home Health patients with an acute diagnosis of pneumonia and/or upper respiratory infection.
Advancing Nursing Practice through an Interprofessional Team Leadership Project. Pneumonia is the leading cause of death by infection in the elderly according to the CDC National Center for Health statistics. This project is designed to develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of a pneumonia protocol. Guidelines and educational tools for use with telemonitoring were developed using clinicalguidleines.gov standards. The study will be an experimental design with control and intervention home health groups. Education about etiology and potential health complications from pneumonia can motivate self-care behaviors that enable early recognition of problems and enhances the ability of the patient to stay healthy and independent (Orem & Taylor, 1986). Control and intervention groups will complete an electronic survey on disease understanding and management of pneumonia. Outcomes evaluated are disease understanding, management and readmissions to the hospital. Study findings will provide the basis for developing best practices for telehomecare nurses that can be used locally and nationally by nurses using technology to care for patients.
Increasing your Scope of Organizational Influence & Impact. I will continue to expand on further clinical tools to improve the care of geriatric patients in the home health setting. As I complete an advance practice degree, I plan to purse leadership positions that will allow influence related to legislative and organizational impact.
