Description/Overview: The success of many research projects is in large part dependent on a well functioning team where the members are committed to a common vision and respect for one another and their roles. Knowledge of key strategies for teamwork and mentorship is important for the success of any research team.
This symposium will focus on key strategies for forming and sustaining research teams that flourish. In the first paper, attributes of a successful team will be highlighted along with helpful guidance in forming a research team that works. In the second paper, key strategies for team building and sustaining productive research teams will be discussed. The third paper will focus on tactics to overcome “character-builders” in team work. Finally, the fourth paper will emphasize the role of mentorship in building and sustaining a successful research team.
Learner Objective #1: Develop a cohesive research team that is productive and goal-oriented.
Learner Objective #2: Applying team building techniques and mentorship when dealing with selection and retention of team members.
