F 12 SPECIAL SESSION: EuroVision 2020: Progress Update

Monday, 31 October 2011: 3:15 PM-4:30 PM
Description/Overview: The purpose of this session is to share the work of the European Chapters and emerging Honor Societies in supporting Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (STTI) in its vision to become a truly global organisation by 2020. Since 2008 representatives from the Chapters (now five) and emerging Honor societies in Europe have met annually to share their ideas to develop a strategy for expanding STTI across Europe. In 2009 we developed our European strategic plan which was presented at the 40th Biennial Convention in Indianapolis. In this presentation we share the progress we have made on the eight goals set out in our strategic plan and our vision for the future development of this new global region. To set the context for EuroVision 2020 – Progress Update we will briefly outline the extent of Europe and the similarities and differences across the European countries. The current status of STTI Chapters and Honor Societies in Europe and their successes and challenges will then be presented. The strategic plan for STTI Europe will be presented and progress made in the last two years towards achieving these goals will be discussed. The challenges and opportunities arising from the European nursing context will then be discussed in relation to STTI’s mission, vision and strategy for globalization. The model adopted for expanding STTI in Europe, especially the collaborative nature of the approach taken may be insightful for members in the newly established global regions. Finally we raise your awareness of our new initiative as STTI Europe hosts its inaugural regional conference from the12th-14th July 2012 in Cardiff, Wales on the theme of `Diversity across Europe: Implications for Nursing’. So please come along to hear the views and voices from your European colleagues and we look forward to welcoming you to Wales in 2012.
