In keeping with current trends the School of Nursing at California State University, Los Angeles has explored ways to increase clincial experiences in community settings. A collaborative partnership was created involving the University's School of Nursing and Institute of Applied Gerontology, the City of Los Angeles, CA. and the Department of Aging. California State Univrsity, Los Angeles is a culturally diverse institution mirroring the diversity of the City of Los Angeles making this an ideal partnerhip. The purpose of this partnership is to provide health promotion/disease prevention services to older adults living in Los Angeles. The City of Los Angeles and the Department of Aging are the funding sources for this project. Services are provided by the faculty, staff, and students of the School of Nursing and the Institute. This collaborative partnersip provides a mechanism to meet the goals of the School of Nursing, the Institute, the Department of aging, and the city of Los Angeles of providing quality health promotion/disease prevention services to culturally diverse vulnerable populations. The project also promotes the School of Nursing goal and mission of expanding community-based learning opportunities for undergraduate students, and the university's goals of expanding service learning opportunities for students. This presention describes the established collaborative partnership, the goals and objectives of the project, curricular integraion, and the specific health promotion/disease prevention activities and services provided to older adults at the City's fifteen Multipurpose Senior Center Services. The three areas mandated by the community members of the collaboration, health assessment, health counseling and medication management are highlighted in the presentation. The proposed research agenda surrounding this project is also be described.
