Tool Time for Nurses

Margaret G. Williams, DNSc, RN, Ann O’Sullivan, RN, MSN, and Karen Mayville, RN, MSN. Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing, Quincy, IL, USA
Learning Objective #1: Describe ideas for designing innovative programs that pertain to scholarly endeavors and technology
Learning Objective #2: Describe learning formats for addressing technological learning needs of the STTI chapter membership

This program is perfect for any STTI member, whether they are retooling for a job, retooling for a new practice environment or just advancing their scholarly endeavors with new tools. In rural areas, the STTI chapter serves as the leader in promoting scholarship of nurses, not just for their members but for nurses residing within the surrounding community. The Pi Pi Chapter Program committee has creatively designed this program for the chapter and invited area nurses. The programs have given attendees opportunities to sample a potpourri of different programs which promote nursing scholarship. The hour long programs feature activities such as learning advanced literature searching with the college librarian, using data bases such as evidence based practice, using technology to deliver patient education, creating powerful presentations with powerpoint and writing to publish. Online education can be sampled in a supportive environment with college faculty. Graduate education is fostered by inviting graduate schools to come to the events. The programs reflect an excellent partnership between the college and the STTI chapter.
