Not a day passes, in which the constant awareness of colours and the importance they play in one’s surroundings are noticed. Each day, from the time I arise until retiring, colour has always played a role in my life. As one actually reflects on the emotions, we as humans are capable of experiencing, colours are often associated. This is true for the individual who creates as well as the one who observes or enjoys the creating. The effects of colour are very noticeable when working with others as a healthcare provider.
Creative design applied to surroundings has been utilized in many forms of sewing, handcrafts, and applied art, which in turn is found in one’s home, office, as well as hospital and healthcare décor. For most of my life, the creative juices have been a mainstay to provide personal growth, interaction with others, and to maintain a form of sanity with peace and continuity. This creativity has been shared with others as well as being reflective in my home, surroundings, and nursing practice.
My chosen medium for this particular application is one that is relatively new for me to work in. Quilting with a non-traditional application in the last three years has begun to offer an extension of my sewing skills and fabric manipulation with applications that are continually explorational. There seems to be no end to ideas and techniques to try. Quilting ultimately take many shapes, sizes and form applications, which in this case, was determined to become a wall-hanging reflecting the colours I most favour in my life.
