This poem was inspired by my experience with this secondment The Oxford Dictionary defines Secondment as "a temporary transfer of person to another department". There are many advantages in looking at creative options, like secondment for Nursing employment. It can provide opportunities for professional growth, in addition to acting as a recruitment and retention strategy for agencies. As an employee of B.C.'s Children's Hospital (now part of Children's & Women's Health Centre of B.C.), I was seconded to Mount Saint Joseph Hospital (MSJH) - (now part of Providence Health Care) in 1990. the Head Nurse/Manager of Pediatrics and subsequently became the Patient Services Director of the Children's Centre at MSJH. The affiliation agreement to coordfinate the care of pediatric services in Vancouver was formalized into a partnership that lasted from 1994-2003.
In regards to aesthetic expression this poem contributes to growth, new insights and wisdom for nursing administration. It shares the success of my own experience with secondment and gives insight into some of the details and decision-making involved in making such a strategy/option unfold and be successful.
