What can be more powerful than the combination of the spiritual and physical aspects of patient care? This poem pays tribute to those involved in the care of a boy who succumbs to death as witnessed by a priest and nurse. Both feel helpless and numb in what they have just experienced in the ICU setting. The poem visualizes the experience through the eyes of the nurse. And demonstrates the connection between the two ministries of nursing and pastoral care. With the nurse reaching out to comfort the priest although she herself is stricken with numbness and grief.
