The art presented illustrates the need for building concrete relationships within the United States Air Force Nurse Corps, including active duty, reserve, and guard. With the nursing shortage engulfing our profession, the Nurse Corps must demonstrate who we are, why we are here, and how we will support our corps. The artwork displays what the Nursing Service Management (NSM) courses are and why they exist. We believe that through mentoring our future nurse leaders we will provide a stable and highly capable management team. The NSM courses’ content emphasizes the importance of the three components of our USAF total nursing force. The three components, guard, active duty, and reserve, like links in a chain, are essential to ensure the success of our profession. Since September 11, 2001 the patriotism of the United States has grown stronger, strengthening the chain. We continue to look at our symbols of national pride; the US flag, the Statue of Liberty, and the eagle. They are ever present in our thoughts giving guidance and direction. The C-9 aircraft symbolizes our mission as nurses in the Nurse Corps, professionals supporting our injured troops during transport out of harm’s way. The NSM courses provide many tools for our future Nurse Corps leaders. These leaders will someday guide the Nurse Corps and eventually move on to the civilian sector where our ideals in military healthcare will continue to soar like the eagle.
