Learning Objective #2: Describe the benefits and barriers to international, triangular partnership development that the Scholarship of Engagement approach addresses.
The theme of this symposium is the mutual benefit derived from an international partnership initially formulated to improve the health care system of a third world country. Through the process of partnership development guided by the model, Scholarship of Engagement, both within the United States and between the international partner learning, growth and change occurred. Impacts occurred in the nursing education and health care delivery systems of each international partner. Three types of knowledge-technical, communicative and emancipatory- emerged from the work of the partnership. The purpose of this symposium is to provide a forum for dialogue among presenters and with the audience regarding processes for the development and enactment of international partnership using the Scholarship of Engagement model.
