Learning Objective #2: Plan and carry out a search of the literature for the best external evidence | |||
This session addresses the knowledge and skills useful to clinical nurses when searching for the best evidence to inform their clinical practice. The steps, decision-points, and methods used to search the literature for best evidence will be presented by a heath services librarian using real-time and simulated examples of online searching. This interactive simulation of actual searches in the evidence-based databases will address both simple and more advance issues related to conducting an efficient and effective search using internationally recongized databases including the Cochrane database, STTI Directory of Nursing Research, online evidence-based nursing journals, governmental and other databases easily accessed via the Internet. Tips, pitfalls to avoid and sources of online training and tutorials will be summarized. Participants are encouraged to come with questions and issues for discussion. | |||
