Nursing students frequently perceive the study of nursing diagnosis as boring and unstimulating. Nurse educators are constantly striving to present nursing diagnosis in a more innovative manner. The innovative strategy we utilize with nursing students is to take them to a museum of arts and let each of the students select a 'work of art' and offer a nursing diagnosis along with a rationale for the diagnosis. When the field trip is not a practical solution, we often use the same strategy in the classroom. Photos and the nursing diagnoses made by the students related to the photos will be displayed in the poster session. A variety of different types of photos including actual photographs, as well as clip art and cartoons will be included in the presentation. The poster will present a classroom activity based on the innovative strategy, as well as an evaluation by the students and instructors involved.
