From the Pasture to the Stable: Moving Faculty into the Simulation Fold

The initial challenges of incorporating simulation into clinical courses involve eliciting faculty acceptance of this new teaching strategy, and stimulating faculty willingness to participate in the integration process. To meet these challenges, the medical-surgical faculty took on the student role when participating in a stroke patient scenario that involved initial and ongoing assessment skills, determining nursing priorities and interventions, and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions implemented. Faculty reported positive learning experiences and new insights into the role of simulation in the educational process of nursing students.
