An All-Comers Clinical Make-up Experience Using Simulation
Suzan Kardong-Edgren, PhD, RNC, School of Nursing, University of Texas at Arlington, Arlington, TX, USA

A perennial problem for clinical faculty is making up clinical time when students are absent from scheduled clinical learning experiences. We used clinical simulation as the basis for an all-comers clinical marathon make up evening at the end of a semester. All clinical students needing make up experiences, from all clinical levels, met in the simulation lab. Junior students were paired with upper classmen in increasingly difficult clinical scenarios. Faculty were surprised by the level of critical thinking and clinical ability demonstrated by all students. Students responded very favorably to the experience.
