Honoring chapter identity and heritage is one of the greatest challenges in an organization as large and diverse as Sigma Theta Tau International. Prior to the 2003 Biennial Convention, Chapters in Region 6 were invited to submit two identical quilt blocks that represented the unique culture and identity of their school or geographic area. Each chapter was provided with a selection of fabrics to incorporate in some way into their block. These fabrics, in hues representative of the honor society's colors, unify the individual squares and represent our partnership as chapters in Sigma Theta Tau, International. These blocks are being reconstructed into two quilts, using a friendship square design framework. The process of quilt construction has brought a sense of excitement to chapters in Region 6 and has helped us renew the common threads of our identity. Once completed, one of the quilts will be raffled to raise funds for our regional project in support of nursing education in India. The second quilt will tour the region for display at chapter events prior to its donation to the international library.
