Special Session: Wisdom and Renewal Through Reflective Nursing Practice Supported by the Scholarship of Reflective Practice Task Force
Learning Objective #1: Explain how reflective practice supports professional development and personal renewal and discuss ways and means to develop reflective practices in the professional nursing context
Learning Objective #2: Explore and discuss the scholarship and literature related to reflective practice in nursing
This session will consider how reflective practice, as a systematic approach to thinking and acting, promotes professional development and personal renewal. Literature related to reflective practice will be presented. A case exemplar of a nurse using reflective practice as a means to improve patient care will be shared and analyzed. Through this form of reflection participants will be encouraged to consider how this exemplar can be applied to their nursing context. In addition, participants will be asked to consider how reflective practice guides interactions with nurse leaders, peers, and students in addition to the patients they serve. Participants also will be asked to consider how they can create a nurturing work environment that encourages reflection and renewal. Finally, how the current scholarship of reflective practice can guide nursing practice in the future will be considered.
