Exciting challenges are available for any nurses willing to take a leadership role in their communities. If they seize the opportunities, nurses can address such issues as the current workforce shortage and the recruitment of bright, young men and women to the nursing profession through a grassroots effort. A Health Careers Consortium in two adjacent West Texas cities was created by three nurses who responded to just such an issue. Thus, leadership strategies (LDS) emerged that involved the Chamber of Commerce, an independent school district, a community college, two universities, and seven hospitals. Strategies implemented in the LDS paradigm had diverse participants sitting at the same table working together for a common goal and the solutions are working. "Let's Do Something" (LDS) resounded throughout countless meetings and to date keeps the momentum of the group growing. LDS nursing leadership has been simple but complex, easy but hard. However, everyone involved would say it works! Regardless of where you live, this is a session to learn and discuss LDS leadership strategies to use in your community whether or not you are charismatic or practical - Let's Do Something!
