Mary E. Norton, EdD, APN-C, Department of Graduate Nursing, Felician College, Lodi, NJ, USA
Learning Objective #1: Identify international collaborative partners and international collaborative funding partners
Learning Objective #2: Identify challenges in developing international learning communities and benefits to collaborating partners

This paper discusses an innovative collaborative faculty development program between two academic institutions: one in the USA and one in the Middle East. The purpose of the program was to develop an international community of learners through the development and implementation of electronically designed learning packages. Descriptions of the two institutions' strengths and limitations are provided. The challenges of building an international learning community between these institutions, the role of technology, collaborative partners who provided funding and technical assistance, and outcomes are explored. A follow-up of the project a year later discusses the impact on student learning and coping with unexpected circumstances.
