The Novice Researcher - Getting Started
Judith Bartz, MSN, RN, BC, CRRN, USA
Learning Objective #1: The learner will be able to identify the pitfalls that the novice researcher may encounter while beginning a research project.
Learning Objective #2: The learner will be able to identify compensatory mechanisms utilized by the novice researcher to attain completion of the research project.

The nursing shortage is beginning to resolve and the future for nursing as a profession is bright. Research is being funded and change in the clinical areas is driven through evidence based research. Nursing students finishing the bachelor degree program have increased study demands to be able to maintain their studies. Healthy People 2010 has detailed 10 health care objectives for the United States for the future health of the nation. The focus of this research study is to survey bachelor degree nursing students about their lifestyle habits while in school and disseminate the information regarding lifestyle. Sharing healthy lifestyle habits with a younger population may carry through to future generations. This presentation details the novice researcher's travels through the IRB process to be able to survey students, the pitfalls encountered, the compensatory mechanisms to overcome the pitfalls, and future plans to accomplish the Chiron plan.
