Service - Academic Partnerships: A Model for Developing Leadership Capacity at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center |
Learning Objective #1: Describe a process for assessing the leadership values and culture within an organization |
Learning Objective #2: Explain a multi-focused approach for developing leadership capacity in a complex health care organization including executive coaching and other tactics |
The foundation of any organization is the talent and quality of the workforce as well as the leadership capacity of both formal and informal leaders. How does a new Chief Nursing Officer or Dean, when beginning their role, assess the leadership capacity, identify strengths and opportunities within the environment, and develop a strategic and tactical plan to strengthen the culture? This presentation will describe a partnership between The Univeristy of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Nursing designed to share expertise and create synergy around increasing leadership capacity. Some of the tactics described will be: the who, what and when of choosing an executive coach; developing, launching and evaluating the culture of leadership; defining the strategic plan; and achieving rapid change through work groups. |
