The Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellows Program is an advanced leadership program for nurses in senior executive roles who aspire to lead and shape the US Health care system of the future. The mission of this program is to inspire experienced nurses in executive roles to continue the journey toward achieving the highest levels of leadership in the health care system of the 21st century. This presentation will provide an overview of the fellowship opportunity and identify the best practices in leadership development. The presenters will highlight the major components of the program which include an advanced leadership curriculum, seminar and workshop sessions, pursuit of an individual learning plan, completion of an individual project, intensive coaching, and a significant experience with a senior executive mentor. In addition, the presenters will discuss the five key competencies that are essential for successful leadership in the emerging health care system. These competencies include: Knowledge of self; interpersonal and communication effectiveness; strategic vision; risk-taking and creativity; and inspiring and leading change. The presentation is relevant to the convention theme of “Create the Future Through Renewal” because it exemplifies nurse leaders who have enhanced their self-confidence and risk-taking ability through the RWJ Executive Nurse Fellowship. The presenters will include their insights regarding the impact of their mentor experiences, leadership projects, leadership development, and overall lessons learned. These lessons learned by the RWJ Executive Nurse Fellows have a broad implication for nurse leaders and can be applied in a variety of health care settings. | |||
