Nurse Leaders Influencing Design and Implementation Strategies of Information Technology
Learning Objective #1: Understand approaches to standardization and development of terminology to represent nursing practice and secure interoperability
Learning Objective #2: Understand approaches to computerized information systems selection and implementation of through lessons learned and available resources across the globe
The IMIA NI (International Medical Informatics Association – Nursing Informatics) Nursing Informatics Management (NIM) working group proposes to conduct a comprehensive symposium relating to the challenges and issues facing nursing administration and leadership in the areas of on-going design, implementation and use of information systems to support quality patient care. Nurses are being called on to participate in the design, selection and implementation of computerized information systems. However, challenges arise in that many have too little knowledge, expertise and skills to feel confident making necessary choices that shape the direction of professional nursing and innovative patient care. The growing cadre of nurse experts in the field of health information systems offers an opportunity to share experiences with other nurse leaders. In so doing, nurse leaders will be better prepared to participate in the decision-making related to the selection and deployment of computerized information systems in health care. In summary, this workshop will focus on providing participants with an overview of significant issues to represent and support professional nursing. The IMIA NI Nursing Informatics Management working group is composed of individuals from more than 10 countries who have expertise in Nursing Informatics and are willing to share their knowledge and experience in this symposium.
